    The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is a non-profit membership organisation and the global voice for sustainable hydropower. I was invited back to IHA after my career break and took on a new area of responsibility working with event sponsors:• Managed relationships with multinational stakeholders for a million-pound international event attended by a Head of State. This included negotiating sponsorship contracts, leading engagement sessions and collecting qualitative feedback.• Streamlined sponsor communications and tracked progress, working across internal teams.• Liaised between professional conference organiser (PCO) and event sponsors.• Organised and ran a side-event showcasing innovative and inspirational speakers, acting as MC to introduce speakers on stage.

    Eager to use my my degree, I joined a specialist Latin American travel company. I swiftly learnt to use flight software systems and CRM databases to excel in my initial role. I quickly progressed to join a six person team, designing, organising and selling Group Tours.Responsible for the entire client journey from initial contact to return, I communicated persuasively with clients, and negotiated with suppliers, to ensure clients chose our products and had a positive customer experience. Creating tailored proposals, I worked to tight deadlines and navigated stressful situations. I represented the business at travel shows, generating new leads. I also networked at industry events and during work travel across Latin America, regularly communicating in Spanish.

    I used my existing experience and interest in youth work and education to lead a diverse group of 16-year-olds on their National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. This programme aimed to increase youth engagement and raise educational aspirations. I facilitated sessions and supervised activities, including projects in the community, encouraging and motivating the participants to challenge themselves and their self-perceptions.

    Keen to gain work experience during my Year Abroad, I gained a place on the British Council Language Assistant programme to teach English at Universidad de La Salle's busy language school. I worked across several campuses and taught a diverse student body ranging from teenagers to retirees. I both managed classes independently and assisted teachers, frequently working to tight deadlines and improvising to meet sudden demands. Additionally I provided extra-curricular tutorials and a weekly conversation club, and made editorial revision to exam papers.
