Timor Agri has given up waiting on Government Officials honoring their agreement with Timor Agri. A case is being filed for international arbitration for full loss probably US$500 million or more against Timor Leste.IRONICALLY THE GOVERNMENT IS PROMOTING INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT AND PRIVATE INDUSTRY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY MISLEADING AS THIS PROJECT MEETS ALL THIS AND IS ALREADY APPROVED BUT StILL IS NOT ALLOWED TO START. Originally we were developing 7,813 ha of leased land (forest, bush & scrub) from Government of Timor Leste into a combined commercial agricultural and forestry operation.Project was approved by all Prime Ministers since Timor Leste regained its independence. Project is forecast to provide 3,500 full time jobs for Timorese and produce at least 60,000 tonnes per annum of mixed vegetable crops in a country with over 65% unemployment, suffers from food shortages requiring the importation of 40,000 - 100,000 tonnes of food each year and significant problems of infant malnutrition and stunted growth.Obviously some Government officials in well paid jobs don't care about less fortunate Timorese. The Project was expected to become Timor Leste's largest exporter (excluding oil & gas) within 12 months of commencing operations. On expiry of the lease term the developed operations pass to the Government and local Timorese to continue to manage and operate. The people of Timor now inherit a large debt for compensation instead if an asset.TIMOR LESTE IS A VERY RISKY PLACE TO DO BUSINESS.
