    The Chief of Staff/Executive Director of Planning and Administration serves as the chief staff operations officer for the Division of Student Affairs, overseeing human resources, strategic planning, organizational development, and operations for Student Affairs' 29 departments. Acts as a primary and confidential advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, providing the VC with complete research, analysis, advice, and recommendations at the highest and most complex levels on the widest range of issues facing the division, the campus, and the UC system. Works within an environment that is rapidly changing and volatile, politically charged, and highly scrutinized. This position has global responsibility for responding to all aspects of the divisional enterprise and is invested with the authority to make a range of tactical and strategic decisions on behalf of the VC and in the interest of the divisional mission. As a senior member of the Division of Student Affairs management team (Executive Group), the chief of staff/executive director makes decisions related to divisional budgeting, staffing, organizational structure, policy, long-range and strategic planning, etc. Participates in administrative committees and task forces within and outside of the Division. Has signature authority over all divisional operations and is delegated authority for the division in the absence of the Vice Chancellor.

    · Serve as confidential advisor to the AVCDOS regarding complex, organization-wide issues. Research issues and make recommendations to the AVCDOS regarding proposed actions.· Implement organization-wide programs and procedures to promote accomplishment of departmental and the cluster's collective strategic plans. Instituted annual weekly unit reports that solicit accomplishments, upcoming events, critical issues; measure employee engagement; and remind managers of legal and policy-based disclosure responsibilities.· Identify and facilitate manager and staff training on a wide variety of topics to improve organizational effectiveness. Implemented 12 Week Year framework to clarify organizational goal setting, foster enhanced accountability, and drive measurable progress.· Oversee development and implementation of communication strategy for outreach to students by the Dean of Students Office and Student Life Cluster and co-coordinate implementation of maintenance of Shoreline, the campus’ student engagement platform. Draft sensitive student communications on behalf of the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Dean of Student.· In conjunction with Student Affairs Grants & Development, solicited and received a new $100,000 gift to establish an endowment to support student leadership development programs, as well as a one-time gift of $25,000 to support new programming.· Maintain membership in the Student Affairs Managers Group and the UC AVCDOS Workgroup.

    · As sub-control point, directly supervised directors in the Office of Student Conduct and Office of Student Life. Served as a mentor and coach to directors with regard to administrative procedures, operational effectiveness, and critical decision-making. Maintained dual reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Dean of Student Life and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.· Served as a member of both the Student Behavioral Intervention Team (SBIT) and the Title IX Student Case Management Team (CMT), working collaboratively to apply our diverse expertise in these high-stakes areas to identify and coordinate the University’s response to potentially threatening behavior and allegations of sexual violence and sexual assault, respectively.· Advised the Student Faculty Conduct Committee (SFCC) on procedural matters in order to ensure fairness in hearing proceedings, as well as policy interpretation. Independently resolved appeals, as appropriate, and clearly articulated my rationale when overriding the committee’s recommendation.· Represented Division and Campus with regard to highly sensitive and complex matters, such as sexual violence, to media outlets, students and parents, and at public awareness events (e.g. town halls). Demonstrated compassion, bravery, and tact in written and oral communications.· Initiated and led process to replace OrgSync. Identified a new vendor (CampusGroups) based on specifications determined from staff and student input, executed procurement process, and managed first phase of business and technical implementation.

  • Co-chair, Interpersonal Violence Appeal Review Committee (IPVARC)

    · Oversaw members of the IPVARC hearing panel in deciding appeals of cases of interpersonal violence and sexual assault. Led appeal hearings on behalf of the University, involving complainants and respondents, their support people, and their advisors (often attorneys).· Independently reviewed appeal requests, determined scope of appeal hearings, and authored decision reports. Each appeal required approximately 40 hours of work and resulted in a final report prepared with integrity and extraordinary attention to detail in order to withstand scrutiny in civil court proceedings.

    · Led and supervised department staff to fulfill campus obligations and innovative divisional objectives related to recognized campus organizations, fraternities and sororities, leadership development programs, registered campus organization accounting, campus events scheduling, and the general student experience.· Served as interim advisor to the Interfraternity Council (IFC) by directly supporting nine councilmen, nine chapters, and two colonies.
