    I have now spent nearly 2 years at Resolute Mining, headed by Terry Holohan and chaired by Martin Botha. With major operations in Mali and Senegal, Resolute is a well-established gold producer in West Africa. In late 2022 we closed a very successful fundraising, realising A$164m in new equity to strengthen the balance sheet and grow the business. In 2023 we produced 330koz of gold and closed the year in a net cash position. The strategy is to expand margins and cashflow, support all stakeholders and develop the business to add real value.

    I was delighted to help establish Natural Resource Global ("NRG") Capital Partners, an independent advisory business based in London offering financial and technical advice to the global natural resource sector. The objective is to provide a bespoke service to participants in the industry based on honesty, integrity and a deep understanding of the sector.

    I was part of a global platform covering the sector since 1996. The aim was to provide a specialised service offering advice and execution throughout the business cycle covering equity, debt, cross-border M&A, restructurings and other specific products such as Bought Deals, IPOs and hedging. My technical background enabled me to conduct site visits to determine the suitability and robustness of projects and companies.

    I started my City career as a mining equity analyst covering South Africa initially, then the larger, more diversified groups based in the UK. I worked for Julian Baring at one stage and was the editor of the weekly publication at the time that the 1000th edition was distributed to clients. In 1990 the chairman asked 3 of us to form a separate corporate finance advisory group after our involvement in the Minorco-Gold Fields takeover; at the time the largest ever transaction in London. In 1994 we successfully listed Ashanti in London and Accra where demand for the IPO topped $2bn.

    I started as a Learner Official at Kloof which housed the training facilities for the group. I passed my Manager's certificate quite quickly, having been given credit for my Copperbelt experience, and was an Underground Manager within 2 years responsible for some 2500 personnel. I gained experience in production stoping, development, shaft sinking and other areas such as Technical Services. In 1996 I was transferred into Head Office where I had responsibility for the technical aspects of the Feasibility Study for Northam Platinum.

    I started my mining career at an underground copper operation which had been nationalised but was originally part of Anglo American. The mine remains in operation today and is owned by Vedanta. I participated in a 2 year development program learning about all aspects of the job and was part of the Proto team.
