    Storm Surge is composed of concerned citizens, professionals & scientists who've gathered together to form a nonprofit organization that seeks to help our local communities prepare for the challenges of climate enhanced storm activity and sea level rise. Our service area includes the communities of Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, Salisbury, Rowley, Ipswich and Essex, including the Great Marsh and Barrier Islands of Salisbury Beach & Plum Island. As Chairman I've worked with members during the formative stages of this organization to define its mission & purpose, organizational structure, short term strategy, educational programming and fund raising activities. I've engaged in grant writing, public speaking events, press conferences and presented statements on behalf of Storm Surge before the EPA relative to the phasing out of Coal Fired Power Plants. I've been invited by local officials to serve on a sea level rise/climate change risk assessment task force.

    Provide a Daily Surf Report for the Northeast U.S. coastline, with a 2-5 day storm and swell forecast. We predicted that Hurricane Sandy would be a problem for the Northeast coast 2 days before the major media caught on. Additionally, using satellite & wave model analysis, we've oftentimes predicted swell events that other national surf sites have missed..

    Used various data sources including Mass. CZM shoreline change data and historical nautical charts dating back to pre revolutionary war era to chart the changes of the Plum Island shore and correlate erosion events with Merrimack River Jetty Construction, disrepair & subsequent repair, as well as river channel dredging. Utilized weather buoy data, shoreline observations, time lapse satellite imagery and USACE lidar imagery to observe & predict shoreline change. Accurately predicted shoreward sandbar migration & welding and future erosion hotspots. Presented results in an elaborate & impactful powerpoint presentation to the USACE, Town of Newbury, Massachusetts Audubon, Town of Salisbury as well as Town of Newbury sciences classes.Results of this study can be viewed at:www.plumislanderosion.com
