Grad BSEE, '61 from USC in LA. Worked part time in Mobile Radio Eng for Pac Bell during Sr Yr. Moved to Oprns Dept. for 6mos, then to Mktg (Data Svcs) as Sls Rep, Sls Mgr & Dist Sls Mgr. Grad Bell Sys Data Trng Prog in Cooperstown, NY, '63. Moved to Oprns Dept as Dist Plnt Mgr then to SF to develop & implement automated system for Res records, repair calls, testing, dispatching-statewide. Moved back to LA to manage budgets, results, personnel for statewide mktg org. Appointed Gen'l Mgr for all Spec Svcs install & mtce in So. Calif, then Mktg Mgr for Finance, Transp, etc business svcs in So Cal. Moved back to SF to establish & manage new dept responsible for all New Bus Devel for Pac Bell. This was in the Mktg Dept but I had Engr Dept people working "dotted line" for me. We did all Mkt Res, Comp Analysis, Bus Cases, etc for new services we were considering. Two yrs later I was promoted to Asst V P and sent to Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) in NJ for 3 yrs to establish a similar organization to perform the same duties for the 7 "Baby Bells" as I had done at Pac Bell. I was 2 yrs into my 3 yr rotational assignment when Pac Bell offered an early retirement prog for all of its mngmnt people. By this time, my job at Bellcore had given me nat'l and internat'l exposure to many telecom co's and very frequently I was a guest spkr at various conferences/conventions in Europe & the USA to talk about "The Intelligent Ntwk" and the growing competition & deregulation that was inevitably coming. The timing & design of Pac Bell's early retirement offer was too good to pass up so I decided that I would take it & go to work for one of the many companies that had told me they would love to have me in their company. However, before I sent out my resume', I asked Bellcore if they would like to hire me as a new employee in the same job I had at that time. To my surprise they said "yes" & I stayed on for another 5 yrs, at which time I retired on my 53rd birthday.
