    I was responsible for two reading groups, one in the morning with the younger elementary students and one in the afternoon with the older elementary students, both an hour and a half long. With the younger students, I helped them to learn and review letter sounds, sound out words, read simple sentences, and complete simple worksheets. The older students I helped to increase their words per minute read, expand their vocabulary, and improve their enunciation. I also helped them develop their writing skills quite a bit; the worksheets required complete sentences and, later in the year, full paragraphs. I would edit their worksheets, long answer questions, and paragraphs after school and return the papers to them the following day.When not with a reading group, I worked as a classroom assistant in several different grades, doing whatever the teacher required of me. I also, along with the other AmeriCorps members, placement tested the kids.

    I received a weekly assignment from my sports editor, set up the necessary interviews, conducted and transcribed said interviews, and then wrote a corresponding article for the newspaper. I also served as the stand-in sports editor whenever my boss went on vacation. I was responsible for proofreading/editing all the article for that week, as well as coming up the article headlines and titles.
