GCPS is a consulting firm that specialises in helping organisations ensure the safety and protection of children and other vulnerable groups, working with a wide range of clients to identify and address safeguarding risks. GCPS has extensive experience and expertise in strategy and policy development, review, evaluation, audit and investigations. Mary has conducted safeguarding reviews and investigations for a number of organisations in the international development sector and run training workshops in various countries including Mail, Cameroon and Nepal. Through GCPS Mary has worked previously with Plan International on a number of child protection projects, including reviewing their work on community-based child protection, with field visits to Benin, Niger and Senegal. She developed good practice guidelines on community based child protection, as well as running consultation workshops and training events in West Africa, using materials developed by GCPS. In 2016 she supported ISPCAN on the development of their strategic plan and co-facilitated an international members' workshop in Switzerland. In 2017 Mary carried out an evaluation of the "Protection and Education of Children" in Uganda for the Africa Educational Trust, with a focus on street children. She also worked with GCPS colleagues to develop safe programming guidelines for clients including Save the Children and delivered pilot workshops in West Africa. In 2021 she co-authored a study on research into how partnership relations influence responses to sexual exploitation and abuse by humanitarian workers for the International Council for Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) and the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Response (SCHR). Most recently she led a project to develop a harmonised approach to data collection and reporting of incidents of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment in the humanitarian sector, working with the CHS Alliance and SCHR.
