I was a Quality Assurance Technician at Medela LLC., a worldwide supplier of breast pumps and accessories and a supplier of Negative Pressure Wound Care pumps. I was a final inspector in Sterile and Retail Kit production. I was responsible for ensuring that the breast pump kits were produced according to customer specification and company guidelines. This involved the monitoring of the assembly lines for cleanliness and pulling samples from each line to inspect for cleanliness and presence of all components in the kits. Samples were pulled every 15 to 30 minutes on each line. I was responsible for as many as 5 assembly lines in the room I worked in.In addition, my duties also included the role of Incoming Warehouse inspector. This job entailed inspecting the components that are received in daily in the Warehouse for the kits. Items inspected daily included plastic molded parts, electrical components, instruction booklets, labels, retail boxes, tote bags and other various items needed for the breast pump kits produced in production. Parts are received in at Receiving, then are inspected by the Incoming Inspectors. My primary responsibility was to inspect efficiently through the use of sampling in order to keep the Warehouse floor clean and the production rooms supplied with the parts they need. I was on a monthly rotation with the other inspectors performing these roles. My role there was eliminated due to worldwide global restructuring at Medela.

I was an Engineering Assistant for two engineers at a plastic manufacturing facility. My duties as an Engineering Assistant included assisting with the necessary documentation and paperwork needed to expedite production of product through the shop, sometimes over-seeing the molding process of a particular part after the mold had been constructed, delivering mold samples to the customer for evaluation, and most of all, assisting in the quote process when requests for quotes are received. This required operating/opening SolidWorks part models, calculating part weights based on the mass properties of the part, securing material prices, estimating machine time, press size, packaging costs and all costs/operations necessary to producing a part per the customer requirements or specifications. This also involved navigating through a Dos-operated computer quote program that produced the quote worksheet as the information was entered. I was also responsible for sending the quotes out to the customer and following up to make sure they were received. My job was eliminated due to re-structure of the workforce.

Quality Control / Final Inspection

Feb 1981 - Mar 2000

Crystal Lake, Illinois, United States
I started my career at PTD as a packager, progressed to a machine operator and finished as a final inspector.I worked at Precision Twist Drill for 19 years before I was laid off in 2000. I became experienced in the manufacture of cutting tools, first as a packager and then as a machine operator. I manufactured micro drills that were used by the Ethicon Company, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson and were used in the manufacturing of surgical needles / suture equipment. It required a great deal of precision and skill to operate these machines and make acceptable, high quality product. I then progressed to final inspection of all cutting tools after the micro drill portion of the company was phased out. Precision Twist Drill was privately owned until 1997 when it was bought by Sandvik International. I was laid off due to a restructuring of staff.
