    I was appointed Consultant Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon in the Trust at the Middlesbrough General Hospital in 1998. I was tasked with building the department of plastic surgery into a modern microsurgically-capable unit. Adding to the skill mix and innovating in several areas, the department grew successfully for the next decade. My skill set there was post cancer and trauma reconstruction, skin cancer, hand surgery and aesthetic surgery.Having been Clinical Director for just over that decade, I could do no more and sought to broaden my career by joining two independent sector NHS-treating hospital Groups. I reduced my contracted time there until I retired from regular employment with the Trust in 2013.
