    From 1969 through 1974 he was assigned as a uniformed deputy sheriff serving in the patrol, traffic, civil, canine and special enforcement divisions.In 1971 he implemented and supervised the Sheriff's Department Law Enforcement Explorer program which is a worksite-based program for young men and women from 14 to 21 years of age. The program provides insight into a variety of hands-on law enforcement career activities for young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement. In 1974 he was assigned as an investigator to the Office of Special Investigations where he worked in an undercover capacity in the areas of organized crime, homicide, major fraud, terrorists and subversive organizations; and, extraditions of major felons throughout the United States. In 1980 he was assigned as an investigator to the Personnel Division wherein he conducted background and interviews of potential new hire employees and investigated civil claims against the department until his medical retirement in January, 1981.
