I was an Assistant Librarian for Japanese. I was interviewed in Japanese for this position and, amongst other things, romanized the titles of Japanese books for input into the University of Toronto library databases. I also catalogued some donations of Japanese texts to the library. Part of my duties were to assist Japanese speaking patrons visiting the collection or calling the library from Japan.

I edited the documentation for NetWare's interfaces with Token Ring, TCPIP, and other networking protocols, including the Protocol Stacks documentation, etc. I had sole responsibility for designing one of Novelll's earliest online Help utilities and for selecting subcontractors (from many small companies) in their bids to sell on-line databases to Novell. I was offered the Editor in Chief position for Novell's LAN Times publication (1987 circulation: 60,000), a position I declined in order to move to Japan and work for Tsushin Setsubi.

As the editor for the International Cinema, I was responsible for viewing, assessing, repairing, and evaluating the 16mm foreign-language films on loan to the university from cinema distributors around the world. All the films to be screened by the university's International Cinema first came to me to be viewed, inspected, and repaired if necessary. I was also responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the Film Archive, the largest film library in the Intermountain West, inspecting, viewing, and repairing the film stock as I saw fit. This was a part time job in the film vault. I worked twenty hours a week while I was there.
