      I am a 25-year communications professional with experience in senior levels at the Government of BC and now Doctors of BC. Before that, I worked in TV journalism in Victoria.Doctors of BC (formerly the BC Medical Association) represents 12,000 physician members around the province. As a team, our goal is to 'make a difference so our doctors can make theirs.' We believe that all of us - patients, doctors, health professionals, and our health care system as a whole - are better when we all work together.In my role at Doctors of BC, I oversee strategic communications with all the elements that encompasses, including: internal and member/stakeholder engagement; advocacy (including government relations); branding and marketing; public/media relations; online and social media, publication of the BC Medical Journal, and internal communications to support a strong culture of trust among our 200 employees.In recent years, we have introduced a branding strategy which led to a change in the public name of the organization to Doctors of BC, after over 100 years as the BCMA. This shift allows us to better connect with all our audiences. The brand strategy work has been complimented by the development of a new web site which was publicly unveiled in August 2014. The new site is easier for the user to navigate, it is mobile friendly, and it exemplifies the elements of the new brand.As a leader, I believe in the power of the team. I believe in creating an open environment where information is easily exchanged, ideas are shared, and everyone understands how the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I believe in garnering consensus on our goals, and clearly defining success, so that everyone has the opportunity to do their best and excel.I feel fortunate to be working in an amazing profession and really enjoy mentoring young professionals who will be our industry's future leaders.
