Maintenance of Kawasaki primary gyratory, secondary and tertiary cone crushers3. Repair and replacement of conveyor belting(1.2m to 2.4m belt widths, steel cord and fabric), pulleys and drives4. Maintenance of electromagnets for belt cleaning purposes5. Maintenance of JOEST scalping screen(5500 tph, cutting at 90mm)6. Maintenance of SCHENCK screens (1000 tph, cutting at 25mm dry screening)7. Scheduling and management of the plant shutdown process8. Maintenance of KRUPP drum-reclaimers and stackers. This includes the management of a tripper car and shift-able conveyor on the 70m high discard dump9. Mine wide rigging (10 mobile cranes ranging from 30t to 275t)6. Building of 11kV overhead power lines within the mine pit to ensure power supply to production equipment. Operational project implementation forms part of this responsibility7. Representing the Electrical engineer as a seat on the municipal town council due to the town of Kathu not having this expertise. As the TMM Engineer my duties consisted of the controlling of day to day maintenance, roll out of projects(Anglo Fatal Risk Standards) and Asset Optimization. I have equipped two temporary workshops underground for interim maintenance while the permanent underground workshops are developed and equipped. My team has also received an award for working without an injury for 365 days, both surface and underground.

I have two years’ experience as a Junior Engineer at Black Mountain and two and a half years as an Engineer. In these four years I have worked as the concentrator Plant Engineer, the Shaft Engineer and for 23 months I was appointed as the Trackless Mining Machines Engineer.Also I have 2 months exposure to coal mining operations, open cast as well as underground, and 1 month exposure to deep level gold mining. Other exposures which I have had includes the smelters of Namakwa Sands and various forms of mineral processing – floatation, electrostatic separation, magnetic separation, electrolytic separation.
