This assignment was carried out in the framework of the EU-funded “EU4Environment” Action aiming to help the six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine) preserve their natural capital and increase people's environmental well-being, by supporting environment-related action, demonstrating and unlocking opportunities for greener growth, and setting mechanisms to better manage environmental risks and impacts. The Action was implemented in 2019-2023 by five international organizations (OECD, UNEP, UNECE, UNIDO, and the World Bank). The National Action Coordinator (NAC) in Georgia facilitated the “EU4Environment” implementation in the country.

UNDP Georgia implements the project “Improving Rural Development in Georgia”. The project is part of the EU supported nation-wide program “European Neighbourhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development” (ENPARD) phase III and contributes to the main purpose of the program, which is to promote inclusive and sustainable growth and development, creating employment and livelihoods for the poor and excluded, improvement of rural economic diversification, employment and services; and Improvement of environment, sustainable management of natural resources and climate action.The Coordinator for Environment had the following duties and responsibilities:• Provision of content inputs and supporting the Project Team, UNDP and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in planning and implementing actions related to the environment, sustainable management of natural resources and climate action; • Contribute to relevant capacity development measures, establishing and/or strengthening professional partnerships and networks under the supervision of the National Project Manager for tasks related to improved governance for effective implementation of rural development strategies and action plans.

Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) Demonstration Project in Georgia – UNIDO Demonstration Component of the European Union’s EaP GREEN Program.The objective of the project was to assists six countries of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership in progressing faster towards a green and sustainable industrial development by decoupling the economic growth from environmental degradation. Project’s specific objectives and respective activities include:1. Human and Institutional Capacity Development- Develop a set of national experts through training and guided implementation ofRECP assessments in demonstration companies;- Awareness-raising for RECP opportunities and promotion of its benefits.2. Implementation, Dissemination and Replication- RECP demonstrations in chemicals, food processing and construction materials sectors.3. Technology SupportDevelopment and promotion of pilot projects for adaptation and adoption of innovative RECP technologies in target sectors.The National Coordinator acted under the direction of the UNIDO Project Manager and in consultation with the nominated National Focal Points and other national counterparts from government and business sector, to lead the implementation of project activities in Georgia, including identification, assessment, selection and guiding of national partners and experts.
