During my PhD I developed a novel multi-wavelength time resolved near infrared spectrometer to measure metabolism and heamodynamics in the brain. The system uses a supercontinuum laser to deliver pulses of light to the surface of the head and, using state of the art technology, measures the time of flight of photons in tissue. This will provide a gold standard in near infrared measurements, as the absorption and scattering of light can be measured at a large number of wavelengths.
