    During my degree, the American toy company MARMALS hired me to work as a part of a team with a product designer, to start redesigning and creating new ideas for the company. Working alongside my peers, I mainly focused on rebranding the packaging of the Marmals figurine. Consistently talking to the client and the product design team, I completely reimagined how the packaging looked, making the target audience and usage of the toy the forefront of the design. The client was very happy with my outcome, stating that there were some ‘new changes that they didn’t even realise they needed’.

    As a part of my degree, I was commissioned by the Tafwyl festival to design a piece of art representative of the Welsh Senedd building. This was to be placed as the final stop on a Welsh History Arts Trail around Cardiff. Within this I had multiple meetings with the client discussing their expectations of my work. The outcome was an illustrative poster, composed utilising the Welsh language and cultural significance of the Senedd building. This was then professionally printed on Correx board, and positioned outside the Senedd for visitors of the Tafwyl festival.

    The roles of this job included scooping/serving ice cream, managing fryers, stock replenishment, and maintaining a positive customer relationship. Working here allowed me to improve my customer service abilities, ensuring that I always aim to satisfy the needs of the customer. I ensured that stock was always topped up, making serving as smooth as possible during peak times. Due to the nature of the job, there were times where it was an incredibly fast-paced environment, and problem-solving and time management was key to a successful work day.Alongside this role, I separately achieved a ‘Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety - Catering’ qualification, to ensure that I maintained a safe and hygienic work environment while working with food.

    Some of my responsibilities would be to assist in child community groups, where I would complete arts and crafts with the children during school holidays. This gave the kids the opportunity to play and experiment with their creative skills, as well as giving them a safe space while allowing their parents to continue to attend work responsibilities during the out-of-school season. Similarly, I would have to ensure I periodically attended meetings with any superiors.

    Within this placement, I was able to work alongside various employees to fix I.T. problems for numerous clients; as well as wipe hard drives and assemble/disassemble PCs. I was also allowed to create a short animation as promotion for the company, which helped improve my industry experience in skills I had previously gained (such as the Adobe Suite). Likewise, it helped develop my communication skills by continuously talking to the client to ensure their brand was always represented how they intended it to be.
