I was a legal intern in the Research, Advocacy, and Lobbying Unit. At FHRI, I created recommendations for how public demonstrations should be regulated under the Public Order Management Act (POMA), so as not to compromise the constitutional rights and freedoms of individuals. I also assisted in a larger report seeking to stop preventive arrests, extrajudicial killings, and enforced disappearance in Uganda, and to obtain accountability from the Ugandan government for those state-sanctioned crimes. Finally, I assessed conditions within Kyaka I Refugee Settlement and listened to the human rights concerns of individuals within the settlement, in order to assist with a report on access to justice for refugees and asylum-seekers.
