Legal Intern
-
Jul 2020 - Jul 2020
I was tasked with proof-reading a non-disclosure agreement; advising a fictional client about acquisition transactions and terminology; and distinguishing between litigation and arbitration in terms of advantages, disadvantages and costs while avoiding legalese in a 24-hour time period. This allowed me to shift away from my normal writing style of essays and coursework and enabled me to practice writing in a short and concise method that is needed for clients.

Sep 2018 - May 2019
-
Plymouth, England, United Kingdom
During this role I confidently and effectively liaised with other student representatives, attended regular meetings, and worked with the stage three cohort. This voluntary position allowed me to support fellow peers, and introduce change within the Business, Law and Criminology courses by actively listening to comments, and using these to inform solutions if needed, and reporting these to the Head of the Faculty, and Deputy Dean with an action plan. This role helped improve my problem-solving skills, along with enhancing my communication and listening skills, and gave me the opportunity to better understand how others may perceive a situation.

This role required me to work with the Welfare team on developing ideas that will benefit the students on campus. The objective of the role is to ensure our student’s well-being is supported, by establishing a friendly and approachable atmosphere where students can feel confident, equal, and included. We listen to student’s ideas and concerns, analyse and research the issue, and pro-actively work towards a solution. We made certain that BAME, disabled, and other minority groups are represented to enable them to have the same opportunities that are available to other students, and to give them a voice.

Forewoman of the Jury

Mar 2016 - Mar 2016

Bideford, England, United Kingdom
Bideford’s Manor Court is used to receive presentments from the electors within the parish of Bideford for deliberation by the Council and the jury. As Forewoman I had to analyse these presentments and choose which ideas would change the future of Bideford for the better. After deliberating with the rest of the jury, I delivered our verdict in front of a respectable audience. It helped me build my confidence in public speaking and improved my team work skills.
