I managed the rapid prototyping section within R&D Department, based at the CSIR. This encompassedmanagement of the 3D printing machines (filament and powder), planning for preventative maintenance, compiling training manuals and completing training workshops for other colleagues.I developed and designed the cabin of a specialist, high load rated(axle loading above 16 tons), truck. This covered initial concept development through to prototype and final production. Through this process I carried out large scale structural analysis using Finite element analysis (FEA/FEM) and classicstructural calculations, for analytical verification against SANS 3471 & 3449. Both structural and explicit modelling of the cabin structure was carried out to verify accordance with SANS 3471 (Roll-overprotective structures) & SANS 3449 (Falling Object Protective Structures)Further design on the interior of the vehicle, focused on ergonomics/driver interface and design for fabrication was completed by myself. This was all informed using several relevant SANS and ISO standards.Through this design and manufacturing process I wrote numerous technical and functional specificationsthat were utilised for tender processes, related to vehicle cabin component procurement.I was also intimately involved in the design of exterior body panelling. I performed the functional designand compiled the technical specification defining the requirements for the vehicle cooling system. Thecooling system covered engine, transmission and cabin air conditioning systems. After completing designsof multiple systems, I was tasked with co-ordinating and managing engineering integration during thefabrication and testing phases.I lead an aesthetic design team for the secondprototype truck. This lead to me becoming the lead designer on the second prototype vehicle. I managed several engineers throughout this process. I, personally, was responsible for designing the vehicle cabin and all facets relating to it

I was responsible for the rapid prototyping section which involved operating and understanding 3DPrinting (Additive manufacturing) and Scanning. I planned and oversaw the installation of a large scaleproduction additive manufacturing machine. I generated operating procedures and developed costingmodels for additive manufacturing. I oversaw all manufacturing where 3D printing was involved andprovided guidance to the application of additive manufacturing to both Internal and external clients.Lawrence Hobson 2I performed various small component designs utilising Finite Element design and other structural designmethods. I provided various teams within the R&D department with design for additive manufacturingexpertise.I was part of a team of engineers that developed a high power electric motor for tractive application onLocomotives. This exposed me to electrical and mechanical design fundamentals for rotating machines.
