Social Media Engagement Peer in Office of Student Engagement
-
Aug 2019 - Mar 2020
Managed all departmental social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook), creating daily posts and stories to advertise programs and events and encourage community engagement. Used programs such as Canva to produce informative and eye-catching social media graphics. Worked with the staff graphic designer to create, print, and hang advertisement posters. Assisted with the planning and implementation of our events several times a month and helped with other marketing efforts, for the purpose of increasing student engagement and building a stronger campus community. Planning these events involved working closely with the other engagement peers, as well as the non-student staff of the office, a small team of around 12 people, and often partnering with other campus offices or departments, or off-campus vendors. These events spanned in scale from one-off pop-up events, to yearly multi-day projects like 'Consent Week,' to involvement in planning Homecoming. Hosted office hours multiple times a week to act as an in-office resource for students and organizations, both focused on social media assistance as well as for questions on events, clubs, the office, and other issues. Served as a representative of the office, and hosted student organization training sessions to provide information on rules and regulations. Helped to facilitate 'First Look Sessions' for first year students in conjunction with a few other college offices, focusing on the topics of discrimination and bystander awareness, as a representative of the Office of Student Engagement. I also partnered with this office as a volunteer for all four years of college as a member of the student-run volunteer event planning board Green Terror Programs, which holds weekly/bi-weekly events for the student body. I served as a general board member for one year, an events committee chair for one year, the vice president and marketing/social media coordinator for one year, and the President for my final year.

May 2019 - Aug 2019

Chincoteague, Virginia, United States
Assisted guests to the Refuge, primarily as a resource for any questions in the visitor center and lighthouse, as well as occasional roving interpretation on the trails. In addition to in-person visitor center guests, I also answered the front desk phone and responded to overnight voicemails during the opening routine. Covered both opening and closing shifts, and assisted with routine cleaning. Worked with other interns to welcome a biweekly visiting summer camp with a brief informative talk. Helped with fulfillment of the interagency Access Passes at the visitor center and shadowed fee collectors in the collection booths. Helped with a variety of public events, including the famous yearly Chincoteague Pony Week and Wallops Island Flight Facility astronomy events. These events and community programs often involved working alongside community partners such as the National Park Service, NASA, Chincoteague Natural History Association, and various entities in the town of Chincoteague. Contributed to the maintenance of visitor resources by designing updated visitor brochures, printing and folding maps, ensuring that the visitor center desk was fully stocked with all materials, and picking up routine resupplies from the Chamber of Commerce. Other administrative tasks included responding to mail correspondences; delivering materials between both other Chincoteague-based entities and other NWRs; designing, printing, and distributing posters for volunteer events; drafting social media posts; and laminating and distributing informative and directional signage. Performed maintenance on refuge facilities, both indoor and outdoor, and assisted the maintenance and biology teams with larger projects, such as placing beach closure fences and monitoring shorebirds.
