    He joined India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) as Hotel Management Trainee in 1971 through campus selection at IHM Calcutta . He worked in ITDC hotels in managerial positions and later moved to other ITDC Divisions. He retired as Sr. Vice President of ITDC.He has done ‘Masters in Tourism Management’ from Madurai Kamaraj University. He also underwent 3 months ‘Management Exchange Program’ with Trusthouse Forte Hotels in London & has done Short Courses of Cornell University, USA.During his 39 years stint with ITDC, he headed many commercial Divisions: as Senior Hotel Executive; Marketing Chief; Head of IATA Travel Agency; Event Organiser; Head of the HRD Division. His efforts in converting the ‘ITDC Manpower Development Centre’ into ‘Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management’, an ISO 9001-2008 certified institute in New Delhi earned him laurels .In order to offset the impact of disinvestment of ITDC hotels, accepting it as a challenge, he launched ‘Ashok Alliance Hotels’ whereby ITDC was able to diversify into new activities. His 10 years stint in the ITDC's flagship The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi as part of the top management team was significantly eventful. He has widely traveled across India & to major foreign countries viz. USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Singapore & Thailand.
