Community Engagement Assist

As Community Engagement Assistant I developed meaningful relationships with local and international artists and artist collectives. During opening week, I worked with staff, external stakeholders, and artists to organise an event at the Museum of Contemporary and event managed the Biennale of Sydney opening party for artists and invited guests. I also contributed to the creation of educational materials, collaborating with Reverse Garbage to develop materials for our education space. I managed volunteer recruitment prior to the hiring of the Volunteer Manager, by creating content for a newsletter, organising an information session for over 100 volunteers, creating a recruitment application on Smartsheets, and liaising with Accessible Arts to arrange training sessions. When the Biennale of Sydney closed due to Covid-19, I played a key role in the digital engagement program, developing NIRIN at Home Education resources and working on the Google Arts and Culture project. This included quickly learning the back end of the platform and creating stories based on the exhibited artists and artworks.

I attended the Arts on touring workshop, compiling notes as a reference document for team members.

Assistant Producer - Sydney Open

Sydney Open is one of the largest events at Sydney Living Museums. I managed Volunteer Site Supervisors at 20 out of 60 historic and contemporary sites in the Central Business District and Surry Hills areas. I was involved in Volunteer training for over 450 volunteers, participating in the training video and speaking at training sessions. Additionally, posted on the Volunteer Facebook to increase volunteer numbers. I built excellent stakeholder relationships with contacts across the 20 sites, as many would participate in Sydney Open in following years. I participated in the media launch and VIP event by creating and completing tasks on the Events Run Sheet. Collaboration with the Bookings Team was integral to the success of Sydney Open, as in 2018 there were over 6,600 ticketholders and 36,000 building visits. Working with the team I created a spreadsheet with key ticketing information, to ensure accurate data was uploaded onto the website. Post Sydney Open I evaluated and gave feedback on the Volunteer Site Supervisors, improved key spreadsheets to improve efficiency, developed a timeline that would allow the next Assistant Producer to work more productively and efficiently.

The Visitor Services Officer required working across the Eastern Portfolio of Sydney Living Museums. I attended weekly operations meetings with staff members and developed relationships with the Head of House Museums, Curators, Building Facilities staff members, and the Visitor Services Coordinator. I led administrative tasks, including managing the Front of House Outlook Calendars, meticulously pulling data from Ungerboeck, Volgistics and Time Target to create this calendar. I led inventory of items procured by Sydney Living Museums using Vend, ensuring that the museum had received the accurate items. At times, I would work at the gift shop and ticketing counter at Vaucluse House, using vend to process ticketing and other purchases.

I started my career at Julia Gabriel Education (JGE) as an assistant teacher at Chengzhu Mandarin Centre and Chiltern House Preschool. I represented the company externally at a Spring Singapore Education Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, meeting with government officials. I mediated conflicts between Singapore and the overseas centres, coordinated training sessions, and managed online mentoring sessions. Before leaving, I created an extensive manual for this position to ensure that my predecessor would have the necessary tools to excel in the position.

As intern, I helped curators and educators on the Liu Kang exhibition, entitled “Liu Kang , A Centennial Celebration”. I wrote and edited wall labels, collaborated with educators to gather artefacts, and assisted in the installation of the exhibition. I also conducted research on various modern Singapore artists such as Liu Kang, Georgette Chen, Chen Chong Swee, Chen Wen Hsi, Cheong Soo Pieng and Lim Cheng Hoe.
