I am Kirsten Kearney, a PhD graduate in German and Scottish Studies from the University of Stirling, where I also earned my MPhil in Modern Poetry. Currently based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, I am fluent in English and have full professional proficiency in German. With over 15 years of experience as the CEO of esc films, I lead a charity focused on therapeutic filmmaking for marginalized communities, particularly in areas such as mental health and LGBTQI+ lives. I co-founded the Northern Ireland Mental Health Arts & Film Festival and have worked extensively in film production, contributing to over 100 short films and several feature films. My work has received national recognition, and I am passionate about using film as a transformative tool in people's lives.

I head up esc films, one of NI's most exciting arts education charities. We specialise in therapeutic film-making with a wide range of marginalised communities, helping people to transform their lives through storytelling. Our main focus at present is mental health, LGBTQI+ lives, PTDS and criminal justice. We are most proud of our first feature film, Mickey B, which is a modern adaptation of Macbeth, filmed within NI's maximum security prison, HMP Maghaberry, with inmates as cast. You can stream the film online with subtitles in English, German, Dutch and Polish at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/mickeyb
