CreativeMornings/Baltimore is a FREE monthly breakfast lecture series based on the two core principles that everyone is creative and everyone is invited. CM/Bal is one of over 200 chapters around the world meeting each month. Every month, all chapters organize talks based on the same theme. Chapter hosts are responsible for curating speakers, securing sponsors, vendors, and leading a team of volunteers. CreativeMornings are fueled on an engine of generosity.

Co-Founder

Co-founded 826DC, an organization that offers free programming including creative writing workshops, student publications, after-school tutoring, and field trips to K-12 students in the nation's capital. The organization was first established as an official non-profit under the name Capitol Letters Writing Center (CLWC). Volunteers held workshops and tutoring sessions in public libraries and book stores. In 2010, it officially became 826DC and opened a physical space in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. Kira helped build that organization from being run entirely by volunteers with no budget, to its current size with six full-time staff members and a budget exceeding $800,000, serving thousands of students annually. For years, I ran the annual peer-to-peer fundraiser (Moustache-a-Thon and Paddlestar Galactica) which raises over $50,000/year with minimal overhead. I presented a TEDxDupontCircle talk in 2012 with then executive director, Joe Callahan, titled “Without 'u' it's just volnteering" that discusses the fun and importance of volunteering with a focus on 826DC.

My consultant work is on hiatus, as I focus my attention on my role at Art+Feminism and continue to volunteer as host and co-organizer of CreativeMornings/Baltimore. I've co-founded organizations that serve thousands, plan and execute events both big and small (with two industry specific designations: CMP + DES), and know what it takes to get big things started and to keep them going on an operational level. Let’s make some magic happen. Peep my full resume and some passion projects: www.kiraface.com

Self Evident is a new podcast where we challenge the narratives about where we’re from, where we belong, and where we’re going — by telling Asian America’s stories. For the inaugural season, I served as Community Director, and helped nurture a 250+ community panel and headed a crowdfund with over 1000 individual donors and have built the mailing lists by 900%.
