Ms. Fike manages information development and delivery for various projects, including tasks under the Automated Virtual Production Support System (AVIPSS) contracts. As a result of her extensive work documenting processes and procedures for the CMM assessment, Ms. Fike was invited to join the Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG), which was tasked with developing organizational processes, procedures and policies for the newly formed Software Division. The new organization was a combination of Avionics, Electronic Warfare (EW) and Special Operations Forces (SOF) software sections. Ms. Fike developed the organizational Training Plan and the Training Process Guide. She then developed interactive training on the new program in Powerpoint that could be hosted on the intranet site. She also designed the logo for the organization; designed, developed and managed the intranet site and set up a Process Asset Library (PAL) to host all the organizational documents.

As a result of a Reduction in Force (RIF), Ms. Fike moved to a position as an Electronics Technician assigned to the Software Branch of Avionics Production. She was an outstanding graduate of the eight-month training program for electronics technicians and courses in ADA and Basic. In her spare time, Ms. Fike developed documentation and flowcharts (in Visio) for the Computer-Based Training/Artificial Intelligence Lab (CBT/AI), a unit of Avionics Software Production. She was soon assigned to the CBT/AI team, where her responsibilities included full life-cycle support of CBT modules. She was active in requirements development; design of the layout; scripting; development of graphics, animations, sound files and interactive programs; development of user documentation; integration of modules; testing and delivery. Her CBT programs included an expert system to teach the repair of the F-15 Heads Up Display, interactive training for F-15 flight line employees on Cockpit Familiarization, Foreign Object Damage Prevention and Flight Line Safety and training for all Avionics Management Directorate employees (over 1800) in Security Certification.During this time period, the Software Production Branch underwent a Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 2 and 3 assessment. The CBT/AI team was one of the 5 teams used as focus teams for the assessors. Ms. Fike wrote the Process and Procedures Guides for the group and served as a member of the team of code experts who were interviewed to gauge the maturity level of the organization. The organization achieved the level 3 rating.

As part of a training program, Ms. Fike was assigned a six-month rotation to Production Management in the Avionics Management Directorate (LY) at WRALC. She served as a Production Manager for over 1600 items of common (used in more than one aircraft) communications and navigation equipment, including most of the Interrogation Friend or Foe (IFF) and transponder systems. She was responsible for negotiating the repair of these systems with organic (USAF) facilities and contractors in the US, Europe and Japan. She managed a database, which she used to project future repair budget requirements, prioritize requirements and report on repair levels. At the request of her supervisor, she remained as a permanent employee in this position.During this time period, Ms. Fike was also a Total Quality Management (TQM) team leader and facilitator for several unit teams including her own. She also organized and led a cross-discipline team of item managers, production managers, line foremen, line supervisors and schedulers, to resolve long-standing problems in the supply and repair process. She used this team’s findings to co-author a new Operating Instruction for the Directorate.

Ms. Fike served as the student teacher to Ms. Mary Irby, the Head of the English department at Central High School in Macon, Georgia. In this position, Ms. Fike was responsible for planning and delivering lessons in literature, grammar and composition to 9th grade students at intermediate and advanced levels. She also maintained the grade and attendance records. Ms. Fike was able to successfully take over instruction of all 5 classes and issue progress reports when Ms. Irby was called away for a family emergency. For her work during this time, Ms Fike was awarded the title of Outstanding Student Teacher for the graduating class of 1988.
