    Invasive plant removal and native plant installation at Mitchell Woods, a nine acre parcel in Huntingdon Valley, PA, north of Philadelphia. The forest consists of an upland oak-hickory forest, a box-elder - sycamore and spicebush riparian corridor, and streambank. A majority of plant life found is aggressive exotic invasive species.

    I co-teach the Landscape Restoration Workshop again this summer for Temple's graduate landscape architecture class. This is a 4 week long, two days a week, class involving various field trips to restoration sites and pristine landscapes. Sites included Cheltenham Township stream bank restoration sites, Ricketts Glen to look at old growth conditions, NJ Pine Barrens trips, and field work to be done at an area park. Bio-engineering techniques, non-native plant management, and reference sites will be the primary subject matter.

    Managing the ecological rehabilitation of High School Park, an 11 acre Cheltenham Township park. The park includes a portion of the Tookany Creek and associated riparian corridor, wooded area, and a newly established meadow. With the help of an all volunteer staff and community members we are working to restore natural ecological conditions of the park. Work includes removal of invasive plant species, planting of native vegetation, landscape architectural components, community interaction, township liaison, and volunteer coordination.

    Primary responsibilities included performing on-site geotechnical investigations and writing geotechnical reports, ground and surface hydrological investigations, environmental engineering and construction compliance inspections, on-site construction material testing including; concrete, soil compaction, and foundation design. This position required me to read and comprehend construction specifications, create and interpret topographic, soils, geologic, and floodplain maps. The use of ArcGIS, and other mapping programs, were required extensively in this position.

    Primary duties included on-site wetland investigations and delineations, overseeing the state and federal permitting process for wetland development projects, and writing Environmental Impact Statements. The creation of maps using ArcGIS software was a major component of both the permitting process and the technical report writing process. Along with the environmental responsibilities I also performed on-site geotechnical investigations, aided in Phase One investigations, performed structural engineering and construction compliance inspections, performed on-site construction materials testing, and conducted soils laboratory work. This position required me to have the ability and knowledge to make on-the-spot decisions concerning the remediation of subsurface soils both structurally and environmentally.

General nursery jobs such as; weeding, pulling stock for orders, etc., were an everyday part of this position. This position also provided me with opportunities to be in the field and participate in ecological remediation projects. Some of these projects included wetland areas, storm drainage swales, and streamsides.
