I joined the Maryland Film Office staff of exceptionally talented people to learn the "front end" of attracting feature films and tv series to Maryland. Each project we landed meant a great deal of local skilled employment, a surge in hotel room nights, and the rental of property, equipment and space. The work of the Film Office had far reaching and positive impacts for the State.Together with my colleagues, I would seek"must have" location candidates. That search required breaking down scripts, and finding and photographing likely key locations. Eventually Imight lead a scout with decision makers: directors, producers, studio executives. Success also meant building solid relationships with home and business owners, county officials, state agency heads and neighborhood leaders.I was a member of the small team of highly regarded experts in Maryland who could intuit what a production needed. This team worked fluidly, partnering during the initial phase of attracting a production, and leapfrogging to cover numerous projects in pre-production at the same time.If I became lead on a project, I worked closely with production to provide exceptional support, 24/7. Coming from the feature film and network/cable industry, I appreciated the intense time and budget constraints producers faced. That insider insight heped make Maryland that much more credible. At the same time, I worked with Maryland commercial spot producers and independent filmmakers providing the same high level of service and access. During my tenure at the Film Office, the team had many successes and enjoyed the respect of Hollywood veterans and Maryland producers. The Maryland Film Office was and is an extraordinarily focused effort. In 2009, I was asked to take on War of 1812 Bicentennial assignments which included a number of complex film projects.
