    From this industrial training, I had a great chance to learn about the oils and fats and the researches on the palm oil industry. Fats and oils are used throughout the world for both food applications and industrial uses. They are consumed in butter, shortening, margarine, salad oils, and cooking oils. The sources of fats and oils include edible vegetable oils, palm oils, industrial oils, animal fats, and marine oils. Food applications account for the major share of the worldwide consumption of fats and oils. Palm oil has become the world’s largest-volume vegetable oil produced and consumed, surpassing soybean oil in the mid-2000s. Southeast Asian countries, particularly Malaysia and Indonesia, continue to increase their acreage of palm trees and to replace older palm trees with higher-yielding tree varieties. Sime Darby Plantation is the plantation and agri-business arm of the Sime Darby Group. The Division is involved in oil palm and rubber plantation management, cultivation and downstream activities, as well as Research & Development (R&D). From the experience of working at Sime Darby Research Centre, I have learned on the analysis conducted on the lauric and nonlauric oils, the important of the analysis, the procedures of each test and also the instruments used in this industry. Nuclear Magnetic resonance, Near infrared spectroscopy, and Hydrogenator are those major instruments. Various tests that carried out on oil and fat industry are new to me and it was really useful to me when I exposed to a new environment. I had a chance to involve myself in Sensory Evaluation Training which encouraged me to participate in sensory evaluation tests. To conclude, I perceive as this opportunity as a big milestone in my career development. I will strive to use gained skills and knowledge in the best possible way, and I will continue to work on their improvement.
