I must have been doing something right! The national role evolved into a regional one, and I picked up responsibility for the marketing functions for Wacker Neuson’s Australia and New Zealand region (Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Pacific Islands), working closely with the company’s Regional President, product managers, company branch and sales staff, and principal dealers. In addition to managing a significant annual marketing budget, I developed all the company’s local, national, and regional advertising and marketing programs. Thoroughly underwhelmed by our global POS offerings for both branches and dealers, I developed a low-cost and flexible POS display system that could be erected anywhere by anyone. Our dealers loved it, campaigning the displays in their storefronts and at small trade events at every opportunity. During late 2014 and early 2015, I conceived, designed and implemented a nationwide Service campaign that directly resulted in an almost immediate 40% increase in after-sales service turnover. Still winning awards for trade show stands, too - ACE Expo Best Exhibition Stand 2015. Nice.

    • National Marketing Manager
      • Apr 2009 - Jul 2013

One of Sidecar's clients liked my work so much, they offered me a full-time position. After so long out of corporate life, it was a good time to go back in and applied all the things I'd learned. And, I couldn't have picked a better company to work for - a small national operation, but plugged directly into the parent company's global operations, great people and absolutely brilliant products! Best of all, I got to do great stuff! Working closely with other members of the senior management team, along with branch managers and sales teams, I built numerous sales campaigns across print, digital and radio media. In association with colleagues in the company’s Munich-based head office, I contributed directly to the evolution of the company’s global website, which led to a dramatic increase in site visits across all world.I worked extensively with the CMS behind the global site to refine it for local audiences, and regularly produced content for the site. I conceived and oversaw development of a micro-site for the Australian release of a new range of lower cost construction equipment sourced from the company’s Chinese manufacturing operation. I developed extensive relationships with industry associations, and industry print and digital media outlets. I conceived, designed and managed numerous trade exhibitions for the company, culminating in Best Exhibition Stand awards in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

  • Sidecar Design Pty Ltd
    • Melbourne, Australia
    • Principal and Graphic Designer
      • Mar 2004 - Apr 2009
      • Melbourne, Australia

A smaller, more manageable, and more intimate client base, and the conviction that marketing communication had to be more engaged across the entirety of a client's business, led to the creation of Sidecar - the useful adjunct that travels with you on your journey. And, what a journey it was. Becoming immersed in the day-to-day of a client's company exposed opportunities to grow and extend ALL aspects of their business, spark new ways of doing things, and drive brand awareness. Working side by side with sales teams provided insights into to how sales tools could be improved, how sales pitches could be enhanced. Engaging directly with senior management, not just the MD or the Marketing Manager led to leveraging knowledge and skill sets to build long-term sales relationships. That same leverage informed brand positioning and expansion.

      • Aug 1998 - Mar 2004

A marketing communications and design partnership with the talented writer, Murray Finlay, that successfully merged two busy one man businesses to produce a small but thriving marcom and design studio. Despite (or, perhaps, because of) the company’s size - just five people at its peak - it was privileged to work with some great clients: Medisense, Worley Parsons and CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsport), to name but a few.
