    The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), is a Boeing 747SP, modified to carry a 2.5-meter diameter reflecting telescope. It is a joint project of NASA and the German Aerospace Center. DSI, as the representative of the German Aerospace Center, coordinates the scientific operations on the German side and is responsible for the maintenance and upgrades of the telescope systems.
