The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), is a Boeing 747SP, modified to carry a 2.5-meter diameter reflecting telescope. It is a joint project of NASA and the German Aerospace Center. DSI, as the representative of the German Aerospace Center, coordinates the scientific operations on the German side and is responsible for the maintenance and upgrades of the telescope systems. Department: EngineeringAreas of responsibility:- Mechanical design, stress analyses and testing of airworthy telescope systems- Project management for continuous improvements and obsolescence management within the NASA/DLR project- Day to day support and on-call troubleshooting for SOFIA science missions (also during worldwide deployments)- Utilizing NAMIS (NASA Aircraft Management Information System) software to process, distribute and archive all project related documentation, and JIRA software to track system discrepancies and issues
