Reporting to the CEO / Plant Manager I undertake all internal audits in ISO 14001, AS4801, TS16949, ISO 9001 and organise all third party audits to these standards. Additionally I complete Layered Audits daily. I have undertaken audits overseas as part of the Continental ESH Matrix auditing programme that ensures the maintenance of ISO 14001 globally within the Automotive group, and supports the Continental Corporate Social Responsibility requirements relating to the environment. As the local CBS (Continental Business System) coach I assist trainees to develop lean skills so they can identify lean projects, solve problems and document those projects so improvements are achieved in a systematic way. This also supports the KPI's of the Bundoora location. On a daily basis I maintain the ESH systems through liaison with employees, Health & Safety Representatives, Managers, Team leaders and undertake Gemba walks. Risk Management and assessments are undertaken on activities, products, services as well as chemicals using two proprietry internet based systems. Management of the systems include Contractor Management, Document control, Emergency Preparedness & Response, monitoring & measurment, preparation and presentation of KPI's for Management Review, Energy and OH&S Committees, investigation into ESH Incidents with corrective & preventative actions , liaison with third parties like WorkSafe.

Reporting to the Vice President Operations, I was involved in the maintenance of the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 / AS 4801 systems. I introduced an online system for managing Hazards and Risk and Aspects & Impacts as well as Corrective & Prevenative Actions. Later this system was extended to include Monitoring and Measurement, Legal & Other and Document control. This provided efficiencies that were needed following restructuring and the need to maintain our systems. Working with Human Relations and Operations we determined training needs based upon the business activities and risks and legal requirements. Other training included contractors, ESH for new employees, explanation of new policies or procedures both locally and from our head office in Germany and engaging suitable external trainers. Management of chemicals was done using a web based system and included risk assessments. Contractor requirements were clarified and developed with revised documentation and an induction.

ESH Coordinator

Oct 2002 - Mar 2007
This position reported to the Facility Manager at the Windsor site that manufactured air induction modules and composite intake manifolds. Together we maintained the ISO 14001 system and introduced OHSAS 18001. The Health & Safety committee has a strong presence in Ontario and as the co-chair with the elected employee Health & Safety representative we worked together to achieve a harmonious and effective workplace clearing all outstanding health & safety issues and developed a framework to quickly resolve new issues. Working with my colleagues from the other three manufacturing sites in South West Ontario we worked together towards harmonising documentation and systems to avoid duplication. This collaboration provided an opportunity to benchmark. On a monthly basis we audited our respective sites as part of a trained cross functional ESH audit team.

Feb 1999 - Sep 2002
This position reported to the Human Resources Manager. Primarily I was employed to achieve ISO 14001 certification which was a requirement to be a supplier to the automotive industry. This included undertaking a gap analysis so we understood what we needed to work on and getting external support as required. We achieved our goal of third party certification in October 1999.Other activities included management of workers compensation claims and return to work and liaising with the WorkCover insurer on these matters. At this time we had a Medical Centre where a physiotherapist and doctor visited weekly. We were able to justify this resource following a successful cost benefit analysis which was presented to management.Working with employees we identified ESH competencies that could be aligned with the EBA. This activity supported ISO 14001 Training & competency. ESH roles and responsibilities of Management and Team Leader positions were identified and included in Position Descriptions. Working closing with the Quality department we integrated documentation and resources to avoid duplication. This included audits, Incident investigation, Management Review and training.

When I first commenced with Hendersons I worked in the head office in Camberwell reporting to the Financial Director as the Workers Compensation Manager managing claims as part of a self insurance programme. This role covered Victoria, South Australia, NSW and Queensland. There was a strong emphasis on rehabilition and return to work. When workers compensation became controlled by government at the state level the role changed to an emphasis on Health & Safety and on what caused the injuries and the subsequent claims and looking at ways to reduce hazards. It also included the need to work closely with the insurers and doctors who were attached to each site as well as an occupational physician who provided overall medical recommendations. All sites in Victoria and South Australia participated in the National Safety Councils 5 Star Health & Safety certification system which I assisted to standardise. All sites in Victoria and South Australia were certified to ISO 14001.I also Managed all other classes of insurance with the Financial Controller who I later reported to. With the Quality Manager I was introduced to the quality system and we worked together to eliminate duplication and maximise the use of existing resources across the Quality, Environment and Health & Safety Management systems. This included development of integrated manuals and audits. Before Hendersons employed a Human Resources specialist I administered the EEO / Affirmative Action programme including education, provision of statistical information completion of reports, training and development of policies and procedures. As part of this role we were successful in obtaining a $35,000 grant from the Affirmative Action Agency under the Model Directions Programme which we used to train employees and managers.
