Professor Joshua Otaigbe, PhD, CSc, CEng, FIMMM has been involved in most areas of materials science and engineering, including polymer research, which blends chemical engineering sciences with materials structure and property principles to understand and improve processes for advanced materials. Joshua holds several patents and has published more than 150 scientific papers on these and related topics.• Actively involved in university and industry partnerships to solve industrially relevant problems. These problems are often at the boundaries between established disciplines or in areas combining many disciplines that may ultimately lead to discovery. • Through careful mentoring, he empowered young engineers to develop the discipline to continue learning and encouraging them to take creativity excursions outside the imagined constraints of their specialized areas, which may lead to exciting opportunities for the future. • Alongside research activities, actively promoted the teaching of materials science and engineering as the study of all classes of materials rather than their specific chemical, physical, and engineering aspect.• Influenced the design of the materials engineering curriculum at Iowa State University to include a polymer engineering option. • Courses taught include: (Undergraduate Level) – Living in a Materials World; Polymer Processing; Polymer Rheology; Structure and Mechanical Properties of Polymers and Composites; Polymer Composites Engineering. (Graduate Level) – Polymer Rheology; Advanced Polymer Composites; Polymer Processing Fundamentals.
