The JET Programme is one of the world's leading teaching and cultural exchange programmes. Supported by CLAIR and three Japanese government education ministries, the programme is focused primarily on encouraging and increasing native-led English education across Japan, but also plays a significant role in developing cross-cultural relationships between Japan and the many participating home countries. My role was as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), hired by the Kiryu City Board of Education.Key Responsbilties:- Plan, organise, and implement lesson plans for Elementary and Junior High School English classes - Working with the Board of Education as a local civil servant, and advising on English matters- Coach Junior high school students for speech contestsKey Achievements:- Designated a Kizuna International Embassador- Introducing an English Board that was updated regularly to provide students with a fun and simple way to engage with English, with topics including food, travel, and everyday conversation- Leading a 3rd year student through to the prefectural English speech contest level- Developing a strong relationship with the local community and introducing Melbournian/Australian culture to them

The Melbourne Welcome Program was a 5-day residential orientation program for 180 study abroad and exchange students visiting the University of Melbourne. Recruited by Melbourne Global Mobility (MGM) to plan and coordinate the week's schedule and lead a diverse team of student hosts.Key Responsibilities:- Plan and book cultural activities within time parameters and $35,000 budget- Liaised with stakeholders via face-to-face, email and phone to facilitate bookings for small and large group attractions - Managed team of 19 culturally diverse hosts and delivered leadership training- Oversaw daily psychological and physical welfare of 180 international studentsKey Achievements:- Introduced new tour of Melbourne, highlighting the local flavours of Melbourne and important cultural landmarks - Designed and developed information booklet on Australia’s culture and services in Melbourne- Submitted detailed 10,000-word program evaluation report to supervisor which included participant feedback and program successes or areas to be improved
