    Visilant is a social enterprise focused on designing digital health solutions to enable equitable access to eye care for vulnerable populations. 253 M individuals are affected by moderate-to-severe visual impairment and blindness, and 89% live in low- and middle-income countries due to lack of access to eye care. In India and other low resource settings, there is a significant and unmet need to efficiently and broadly screen individuals in remote settings in order enable early diagnosis and referral, and eliminate avoidable vision loss. To address this, Visilant's smartphone-based telemedicine system enables individuals with minimal training to provide anterior segment screening services to rural communities on an ongoing basis, thus expanding outreach capacity for eye care systems.

  • Product Development Engineer- Deskilling DALK Transplantation

    12.8 million individuals are affects by corneal blindness, which can be addressed by a DALK cornea transplantation. However, DALK adoption is limited by a high skill requirement and lack of feedback and reproducibility. In collaboration with Eyedea Medical, we designed a mechanical device to standardize and simplify separation of corneal layers in DALK transplantation. We validated the efficacy of the device in 70 human cadaveric corneas. Working with expert social entrepreneurs, we developed a sustainable business model to promote safe and affordable access to DALK transplantation.

    Led a team of engineering students to design and construct potable water systems capable of supplying water to over 2,000 people for two communities in rural Malawi, Africa. Our goal is to form strong community partnerships and build community capacity in order to implement sustainable solutions.
