Intersect 20 senior Energy professionals who have spent 20-plus years each of Industry experience, psycho-metrically dissect them as individuals and group, and then proceed with a 7 month strategically orchestrated intensive campaign collaborating with the best from Industry, Government, Academia, Finance, Venture capital, IP & Commercial Law, Innovation and Energy and you realise that Grey cells really do matter! We collectively launched and are very proud of the 6 (six) industry start-ups and technologies we created in that short time which are revolutionising the way Energy does business: - Sentinel Subsea Limited (Environmental wellbore assurance)- Resolute Limited (Revolutionary well abandonment technology and assurance)- Windstorm Limited (Amplifying wind turbine design, such than just 7 turbines are required to produce 100% of Aberdeen’s annual energy consumption)- Evadne Immersive Limited (Facilitating SOP conformance to drastically reduce human error on the job through gamification and immersive training)- C-NumeriC (Game changing downhole milling precision - getting it right first time)- MarineJoule Limited (Re-purposing abandoned jacket infrastructure and foundation to create massive amounts of wave generated electricity)When not involved in the above I was engaged in providing strategic direction to a London based global business consultancy, keen to increase digital uptake in the energy sector and it's supply chain, by creating a compelling digital vision and strategy for their energy roadmap with an operating model to enable it. Ultimately the objective was to help our energy clientele organisations to rapidly pivot and transform, leveraging digital innovation, at a time of significant industry headwinds and change, in the ways that mattered most to them, and worked best for them, by embedding digital, analytics, and design into core processes and mind-sets, and building capabilities to thrive in an ever-changing energy market.

Area General Manager
-
Jan 2010 - Sep 2011
Area General Manager | Caspian Region | Atyrau - Kazakhstan⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊A fantastic assignment leading the Caspian business unit to success. The Caspian is a vast expanse comprised of 5 countries, 2 continents, 5000 km's across and a $150M business. The repercussions from the global financial crisis were still causing the conventional customer base to cut spend. Alternative markets had to be sourced and business had to be established quickly to diversify the portfolio and grow the business, mitigating the risk of business contraction. Through execution of strategic sales and a highly-motivated and trained workforce of 70 staff, my business achieved a 26% annual revenue increase and No. 1 in market share by expanding into new markets across Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Furthermore, strict team discipline ensured business was conducted with 100% ethics and integrity compliance in an incredibly difficult and complex business environment where World Bank ranked Central Asian states as amongst the most difficult of locations in the world for ease of doing business. Having completed the transformation in the Caspian region, the final task at the end of my assignment was to merge the business of Russia with that of Caspian in order to build one centralised business unit with common business demographics and cultures. This merge required diligent strategy planning and flawless execution and ensured value significantly exceeded simply the sum of the two businesses combined.

Transformation Business Project Manager
-
Jul 2003 - Dec 2005
Corporate Knowledge Enterprise Business Project Manager | Paris - France⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊A business position in the world of Oilfield IT and applications, implementing solutions transforming operational support to worldwide operations, for products, services, and integrated projects collectively generating $11.5 Billion USD revenue. I directed a team of 15 development, sustaining and Infrastructure IT personnel located in Houston, Brussels, London and Paris within a $6 M annual budget. The technology deployed is an in-house developed on-line support and knowledge management system. It provides employees in the field with digital access to a company knowledge base of 25200 validated knowledge objects (best practices, lessons learned, solutions, training and documentation) with subscription based dissemination of information to the 35000 active users in the field. Furthermore, it enables 24/7 access for the user base to the 150 support engineers and technical experts worldwide, and a tracking system for the 78,000 question/problem tickets submitted each year. The system is 360 degree in nature i.e. answers to helpdesk tickets are translated into published solutions which permit the rest of the world to self-help. At the same time feedback is given to product development, sustaining and training departments to permit continuous improvement to field technology and end user education. The system produced tangible savings for the company, with a 3rd Party assessment documenting $30M USD annual direct savings from gains in operational efficiency, lost-time reduction, and avoiding lost revenue due to knowledge (re)use and support facilitated through the system. Won the 2005 Most Admired European Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) award as selected by a team of Fortune 500 senior executives and internationally recognized knowledge management experts.

Global Operations Manager

Jan 2001 - Jun 2003
Global Accountability for Marine, Seabed and Borehole Geo-characterisation | Oslo, Norway⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊A very exciting appointment as Worldwide Operations Manager for Geo-characterisation Services and at the same time transforming the operation of people, process and technology in what had just closed as the industry’s largest ever Geo-characterisation joint venture: WesternGeco. My remit encompassed marine, seabed and borehole Geo-characterisation services, product development and procurement across a global fleet of 25 marine Geo-characterisation vessels and 250 field/support staff. This business generated $300M annually. I was responsible for operations, technical support, training and budget. In this position I engineered a new E-learning, Classroom, and on the job training and development program, overhauled the bid to bill sales process and toolbox slashing the time to respond to tenders whilst increasing the quality and success of the tendering process, and motivated the team to provide exceptional operations technical support and procurement.

Operations Manager

Nov 1997 - Dec 2000
Area Operations Manager for Europe, Caspian & Africa | Stavanger, Norway⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊Responsible for technical support in relation to 6 marine Geo-characterisation vessels. Providing operational input and guidance to sales and marketing, negotiating specifications, terms and conditions of contracts, whilst ensuring a full compliance to all safety and quality control processes and initiatives. The role was highly diverse and permitted me to demonstrate project management skills on vessel build and configuration requirements for the world’s first, purpose built, seabed 4D Geo-characterisation vessel (MV Geco Bluefin). I also worked on vessel build and configuration requirements for the world’s first Geo-characterisation vessel (MV Geco Triton) which, amongst other classified capability, was able to tow a hi-res seismic hydrophone spread covering 8.1 Square Km. Mobilized successfully within budget and on time, it was the most advanced Geo-characterisation vessel in the world. Other pioneering projects followed - I permanently reduced the need for onshore support when mobilizing new jobs, by using a technique to produce full processing and interpretation offshore digitally eliminating the costly onshore service department, and accelerated turnaround time between processing jobs from 250hrs to just 10hrs. In 1998 I was awarded the President's Award for “Introducing Real Time Sensor Calibration in the Offshore Environment”, as recognition for exceptional technical innovation and entrepreneurship. This project involved deploying and commercialising a technology platform which permitted offshore vessels to conduct critical sensor calibrations at sea, rather than having to go to port, paving the way for efficient site acquisition (reducing vessel job mobilisation times by a magnitude of weeks), and provided a more rigorous real time system calibration which required vessel port calls: multi-$million savings and drastically reduced HSE risk.

Numerous Field Engineer, Field Supervisor & Field Service Manager Assignments
-
Sep 1991 - Dec 1997
Hired straight after University graduation, I entered the intensive technical and field management development program in amongst the most diverse, and often remote, locations across the globe. My job entailed travelling and working as part of an 8-person crew, mobilising, troubleshooting and operating subsea and seabed instrumentation in the works of Geo-characterisation to successfully determine where to drill multi-million-dollar oil and gas wells and field develop energy infrastructure. I worked away from home for many months at a time, in shifts between 12 to 16 hours a day (sometimes longer !), and we got the job done right, safely, first time. Through Schlumberger's graduate development programme I progressed from trainee to engineer, then to Engineer in Charge, before finally being appointed Chief of the entire crew at 27 years of age. Key achievements:• Successfully passed through the highly intensive technical and field management development program. At one time the intensity of this program resulted in 30% attrition rates.• At 27 years of age I was the youngest Crew Chief in the company and responsible for the welfare of the crew, and in excess of $100 Million USD of equipment.• I trained, developed and mentored dozens of trainees and crew under my area of responsibility. Many of whom are highly successful senior managers in the industry today.• We successfully commercialised numerous new technology applications in the field (RTCal, TRILOGY, TRI-nav 3, Nessie 5, seabed single sensor, source signature estimation (SSE), TRI-sor and ULTRAbox technology ) and held industry world records for spiral shooting configurations and spread geometry, increasing production by 30% compared to traditional technology. • In the most extreme of environments myself and my work colleagues and contractors remained safe and unharmed in all situations.
