Sainsbury plc is the parent company of Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd, commonly known as Sainsbury's, the third largest chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom with a share of the UK supermarket sector of 16.5%. The group's head office is in the Sainsbury's Store Support Centre in Holborn Circus, City of London. The group also has interests in property and banking. Sainsbury's was founded in 1869 by John James Sainsbury and his wife Mary Ann Sainsbury, in London, England, and grew rapidly during the Victorian era. It grew to become the largest grocery retailer in 1922, pioneered self-service retailing in the UK, and had its heyday during the 1980s.Since December 2003 I started a part-time job at Sainsbury’s supermarket as a store floor supervisor, I took 19 hours shift a week. I found the job was very challenging, because I must finish the job as quick as possible while ensure the highest quality where possible. I have learned how to work with other people as a team and also as an individual, which I feel is extremely important for my future career. I believe that the job experience I gained during that 18 month will benefit me tremendously in the future.

Job responsibilities: During the study in Mount St. Mary's College I took a part in the school bank as a branch supervisor for one year. I was responsible for helping new students to open their personal bank account with HSBC and also help them to withdraw cash, pay in by cash or cheque and transfer money from or to overseas. During that year I developed good communication and serving skills whilst dealing with the customers of my college. It was a good opportunity for me to take a close look about how a form of business such as a bank works on a daily basis. And that is the main reason why I chose banking as my major later on at Loughborough University.
