Technical Support Manager
-
Oct 2007 - Jul 2011
Supporting ERDAS, FME and Google Earth Enterprise products in the UK and Ireland (although mostly ERDAS to be honest). I've been running technical support since Infoterra took on the UK and Ireland distributorship of ERDAS products, providing first line support, consultancy and training courses across the product range.

Training Manager
-
Jun 2006 - Oct 2007
After returning from sabbatical I was given the chance to reinvigorate training within the company. I formalised how staff requested training, tying it more formally to their appraisals; succeeded in increasing the training budget by a factor of five and evangelised the benefits of training throughout the company. A couple of the processes I pushed for training at the time are now key work flows within the company.

-
Technical Advisor
-
Mar 2005 - Oct 2007
I undertook a number of flow line reviews and recommended changes to processes to enhance productivity within the production environment, while monitoring COTSS developments. During this time I took a nine month sabbatical to travel the world (which was nice), and on return took on the Training Manager role. I also grasped the opportunity to revamp the corporate Intranet, using Movable Type blogging software to provide a useful, usable and innovative internal communications network.

-
Marketing Manager
-
Jan 2003 - Mar 2005
I was responsible for Infoterra’s marketing activities, including web presence, trade shows, marketing literature and PR. I introduced a new CRM (Goldmine) to the company which for the first time ensured Infoterra had a central repository of contact information. I also led the deployment of a dedicated PR company to heighten Infoterra’s visibility to key target markets and institutions, which was the first time Infoterra had instructed a firm to aid in these tasks.
-
-
Information Manager
-
Feb 2000 - Dec 2002
After being drafted into the Communications and Marketing division, one of my first tasks was to re-launch the company Intranet site that had been lying dormant since 1997. This was successfully accomplished with the Intranet providing up to date information on company activities, a company who’s who, in addition to standard company information and quality management information.I was also responsible for the management of the design of Infoterra’s new website, while also editing content and authoring a substantial part of the new site. While maintaining Infoterra’s branding, much attention was paid to the user experience and easy navigation cues and menus were incorporated.

-
Sales Executive
-
Jan 1998 - Jan 2000
During my time as a Sales Executive within the Exploration Services Group at Infoterra, I was responsible for the generation of leads and projects from the Oil, Gas and Minerals exploration sector. Using my experience both from my geological background and remote sensing project work, I was able ensure that customers were well informed about the practical applications of remote sensing products while receiving a high level of service from Infoterra. I was instrumental in developing the pipeline sector as a source of income and quasi-independently developed a stand alone website for the Exploration Services group.

-
Applications Specialist
-
Oct 1993 - Dec 1997
Rather wonderfully, after leaving the oil industry, I seemed to find my ideal metier in image processing, combining as it does a degree of scientific application along with artistic interpretation. The work mostly involved the processing of satellite data to produce image maps and derived products for customers mostly within the oil and gas industry such as BP and Shell. As time went by, I became more involved in both the project management and bidding process, and also undertook some low level sales work.

Or mudlogger, if you will. Took the tried and trusted route for a 2(ii) earth sciences graduate and performed a safety and information service on a number of exploration rigs, mostly situated in the southern North Sea.
