Focused research and collaboration on creating architectures and system designs that enable new capabilities from emerging technologies while aligning with industry standards and best practices. Primarily focused on designing and developing vocabularies, taxonomies, and ontologies that support improved knowledge sharing, agreement, and alignment across systems, services, and operations. Some areas of focus include development of knowledge based architectures leveraging SOA, BPM, OWL ontologies, ontology design patterns, probabilistic knowledge based reasoning and modeling, analytics, and development of emerging technology strategies and roadmaps for customers. I also offer:- system architecture and design services- emerging technology planning and guidance with roadmap deliverables- analysis of and development of network, software and system architectures for interoperability and enhancements for application of emerging technology using modeling tools, mathematical models, and architecture patterns- analysis of and development of architectures for enabling alignment of data - analysis of non-functional system capabilities and technical recommendations (performance, reliability, cost, OpEx) - full lifecycle software and system designs using UML and other modeling tools for OO designs, web services, and metadata My approach is multifaceted and incorporates lessons learned as Chair Emeritus of the Specialized Frameworks team in the NCOIC and decades of technical experience with ITT, SNET, Motorola, Siemens, and Rockwell Collins. Other guidance services include recommendations for specific systems technical enhancements, analysis and recommendations for standards in the architecture and systems, and guidance for application of new and emerging technologies to create innovative technical solutions that either increase or improve user experience or organizational operational capabilities.

Exploring enabled operations capabilities, reasoning capabilities, architectures, technologies, standards, and applications that leverage the knowledge representation and logical inferencing power of ontologies. The focus in on understanding the benefits and the technical approaches of enabling human semantic definitions of the meaning of data and information to be incorporated in our systems and services via semantic interpretation of this data by contextual ontologies. In effect the why and how of enabling a migration to knowledge based systems supporting a wide variety of applications.

Explore principles and develop approaches for creating network and system architectures where carefully created structures of multiple technology frameworks comprised of open standards enable network collaborations and mission oriented coordinations. Critical to this approach is a focus on understanding the relationship between collaborative networked operations and advanced technology frameworks enabling these operations and that mitigate interoperability problems. In todays fast changing operative environment it is critical that adaptability and flexibility be designed into such structures to support expanded operations and new technologies. As a leader in the Network Centric Operations Industry Consoritum (NCOIC) I have investigated and developed many such technology structures in the form of Network Centric Patterns (NCPs) in multiple collaborative domain environments, such as Logistics, Emergency Disaster Response, and Asset Tracking.

Chair Specialized Frameworks FT
-
2004 - 2008
I am Chair Emeritus of the Specialized Frameworks Functional Team in the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC), comprised of over 100+ organizations, where I hadleadership responsibility for coordinating and guiding multiple working groups focused on resolving interoperability problems in specific technology frameworks, e.g., mobility communication networks, information assurance framework, and semantic interoperability framework. A key focus was development of a detailed conceptual model of Semantic Interoperability and the role of specific semantic technology concepts that can be used to enable Net-Centric data strategies and information sharing solutions. Another key result was the creation of an Network Centric Architecture Pattern (NCAP) that provides guidance to architects for enabling new NCO capabilities on existing architectures and systems. The NCAP describes an architecture pattern describing the interoperability technical structure and idenfies key standards for interoperability across the defined functional elements to enable new operational capabilities.

Fellow of Technical Staff
-
Aug 1996 - Nov 2003
Researched, developed, and planned application of new technologies that would improve wireless services, infrastructure, operations, and network for users, operators and service providers.Consulted with major U.S. cellular companies to plan the evolution of their networks to support new services, optimize capital investments, and reduce operations costs.Developed new concepts of middleware to enable network services to be transparent to user level services and applications, e.g., Parlay and forerunners to OSGi.Prepared and developed advanced architectures for VoIP, Web services, and sharable content using Semantic Web technologies.Developed context aware frameworks that adapted services and content to user specific roles and situations. This included Ontology developments for services, context situations, and large sharable content informaton models for different user applications.Applied for 8+U.S. patents in advanced services, networks and Semantic Web frameworks.
