    With no branch banking in the state of Texas in the 70’s, a bank holding company concept which provided common ownership of unit banks was initiated. I was recruited by Republic Bank Corporation, a multi-billion dollar bank holding company, shortly after they had completed their initial public offering in 1973. My previous experiences with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (KPMG) as Audit Manager with bank auditing and SEC financial reporting experience in the bank holding company industry, made me ideal to head up the new bank holding company’s accounting and finance department. While at Republic, I had many accomplishments that lead to their success as the second largest bank holding company in the State of Texas, with over 30+ banks and total assets exceeding $32 billion. My initial responsibility was to set up a general ledger and implement a financial reporting system to provide financial reporting necessary for the Board of Directors and the company’s stockholders. As the holding company grew through acquisitions, I was responsible for reviewing acquisition candidates and coordinating their transition into the holding company’s financial reporting system. My department directed all the SEC filings including specifically the preparation of the consolidated financial statements, schedules, and performa data.
