    Virtuoso integrates travel and vacation product data from thousands of sources to produce a searchable catalog of vacation offerings. Partners use web tools to take advantage of this data to create vacation packages for their clients. The site allows for individual partner branding, and the ability to rate and review vacation products and services, as well as travel advisors. A reporting infrastructure allows people with different organization roles to evaluate the performance of their agents, and a marketing facet allows targeting of the most valuable potential customers with the kinds of vacation products they cared about. I worked in all levels of this infrastructure and feel most comfortable troubleshooting and repairing complex and highly visible data problems.

    I worked as the senior database engineer on the team that developed a registry project to support management of new top level domains. My primary responsibilities included design and implementation of the data infrastructure layer of this new internet registry application. Our design goals support management of tens of millions to hundreds of millions of internet domain names in highly fault tolerant and high-availability system.

    I worked through MaxSam Partners at Virtuoso developing a new application to support their travel industry partners. Due to the time line of the project it was not possible to completely implement the legacy feature set on the new application. As a result, bi-directional data synchronization processes had to be implemented between the new and legacy applications, across three SQL Server versions on multiple servers. My role primarily focused on data model design, data migration, and data synchronization between several legacy applications and the new application.

    My role has been to define and implement the data infrastructure to support production of content streams relevant to individual users based on their interaction with content and other users’ profiles. The system is designed with a goal of supporting 10s to 100s of thousands of concurrent users while making near-real time decisions about which content should flow to each user. Beyond architecture work, I have taken a role in implementing key components of the system including:* An algorithm that identifies popular content and determines how content should flow to each segment of the user community.* Creation of a music warehouse so we can provide users with the opportunity to listen to what a their friends have recently played on their iTunes.* Creation of a reporting warehouse that consolidates information from numerous internal and external data sources (database and other).Current work is focused on developing infrastructure to support interaction between RIPL and MySpace.

    My focus has been on data infrastructure and database design to support the GettyImages.com site and to providing tools to support the sales and management organizations. Key initiatives included:* GettyDW: Designed and lead development of a data warehouse of customer, order, invoice, and product data from multiple systems (Oracle financials, TEAMS asset management, and a proprietary customer data systems). This database serves as the source for all sales and marketing analytics within the company.* Mercury: Lead development on an OLAP/SRS reporting environment used by several hundred sales and marketing users within Getty Images.* Provided Architectural and implementation support for the newest version of GettyImages search tools and software product line.

I held several roles within the company over this time including SDE, Database Engineer, and Manager. In all positions, I worked extensively with the SQL Server product.
