After ProQuest acquired Dialog in June of 2008, I retained many of my legacy service roles as an XML product developer, but was also asked to use my rich expertise with the legacy Dialog search service to assume a more product management like function (referred to by ProQuest as platform management) in migrating the legacy Dialog service to a new technology platform that ProQuest was in the early stages of developing in order to unite several of its other product lines. In this role, I wrote all the initial business requirements for the Dialog piece of the new technology platform, and then worked with developers and UI designers on their implementation. I was also deeply involved with the content team that was tasked with converting legacy Dialog databases into a unified XML ingest format that was being implemented across all of ProQuest’s content sets. Subsequently, as ProQuest moved to implement Agile methodology, I received agile training and then worked as Product Owner on a Scrum team tasked with continuing to roll out search components on the new platform.

I began work at Dialog as an Information Consultant, with a specialty in Intellectual Property and Science. Initially, this involved working directly with clients, assisting them with using the Dialog search service. Over time, I became more and more involved with product development activities, assisting in the design of various end user search tools. Around 2005, when Dialog began offering XML export, I immersed myself in a self-taught effort to learn more about XML technology and the XSLT programming language, eventually transferring into a unit called Custom Solutions as an XML Product Developer. In that role, I designed the majority of and wrote the XSLT code for a number of custom report formats that were made available via the Dialog search platform, as well as many specialty report formats that were done for individual clients.
