Highlights from our business were being awarded the "Small Business of the Year" in the Hospitality category in 2004 and being a finalist for overall "Small Business of the Year" in 2104 from the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. I served a term as a Director both on our HoneyBaked Franchise and our Chamber of Commerce. I was also active with the Missouri Restaurant Association and served several terms on our local Board. Our store had three specific aspects. Catering is the largest of the three. We specialized in catering Box Lunches and Platters throughout the Columbia, MO area. Much of our business is affiliated with the University of Missouri. Our location was consistently listed in the top ten percent of HoneyBaked stores in sales for catering.Number two was our dine-in facility available for year round lunch customers. Most days we filled up all of our forty seats in the facility and when it the weather was nice, we also filled up most of our twenty five patio seats. We were also consistently in the top ten percent of stores for dine-in sales. The third area of our business was the sales of our hams, turkeys, side items and deserts. Not only are were honey glazed spiral sliced hams and turkey breasts available at the holidays for meals and gifts, but were good sellers year round as well. Many corporations purchased these for clients and employees.

During my almost ten years in leading this organization, I made several changes to make it successful. I began with reorganizing our Alumni Districts from being aligned with congressional districts to being more concentric with larger cities throughout Georgia. I also implemented giving levels to segment our donors. I also expanded our quarterly alumni newsletter from being about eight pages to becoming one which was 24 - 32 pages on average to better share the accomplishments of Young Harris College and its students. Although our organization was separate from the College, I worked hand in hand with them to assist in the fulfillment of their goals, as well as ours. One example was to initiate a Planned Giving program to educate our alumni and friends of the possibilities of making major gifts through wills and trusts.

After managing the business for almost a year, I purchased it at the age of twenty-three. From there on, I worked hard to triple our sales before selling it almost ten years later when I was offered the position at Young Harris College. We expanded our focus from primarily collegiate markets to high school and corporate markets as well.
