    I spent 6 years working alongside the Walser family in my spare time to enable them to get planning permission and a licence for a brand new primate and bird sanctuary on the Isle of Wight.This was a very rewarding process as I advised on enclosure design, helped to ensure planning and licensing issues were resolved, and co-ordinated the arrival of the first gibbons at the Haven.

    I initially worked at Howletts Wild Animal Park as deputy head of primates. I worked with lesser apes and several species of old and new world primates. Living on site led to me assisting with hand rearing of several of the gorillas born at the park.While studying for my degree at University of Nottingham I was retained as senior relief keeper at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park when available, mainly covering staff leave on primate and hoofstock sections.

    I worked at Colchester Zoo developing the programme of animal shows and interactive talks for the visiting public. I worked with sealions, seals, parrots, elephants and survived the devastation caused across the site in the hurricane of 1987.

Volunteered at weekends in childrens zoo. Studied day release and gained BTEC Level I and II in Zoo Animal Management. Thanks to everyone there who helped train me and support me to set me up on my true vocation.
