Genesee Libby Studio specializes in the 19th-century wet-plate collodion process to make direct positive photographs on glass (ambrotypes) and on metal (tintypes). We are among only a few commercial portrait studios in the country that create these handmade, one-of-a-kind images that are impossible to duplicate. Each one is a work of art unto itself—every plate is made by hand from start to finish.Rochester-based artist Jenn Libby has over ten years experience working with the collodion process and uses it for both portraiture and other artistic endeavors. Whether you want to make up who you are or just come in for a straightforward portrait to see what the collodion reveals, we will work with you to make beautiful heirlooms that you and your family can treasure for generations. We can do wet-plate collodion portrait sessions in the studio and on-location. We also do commercial commissions and fine art sales, and offer workshops for those interested in learning the process.
