Partnerships in Health Information promotes the uptake of evidence based health care through support and training for health librarians in Africa. We support African led projects; take part in workshops; and organise individualised programmes for librarians visiting the UK wanting to expand their experience in specialised areas. Our concerns cover not only the education of health students and professional health workers, but also the needs of the general population with outreach programmes and support for partnerships between professional health libraries and public libraries. We also collaborate with other U.K. organisations working to improve health care in African countries to maximise our combined efforts. My main role in the organisation is to edit our blog (along with two other colleagues) - Health Information Updates to and from Africa. In addition I have, in emergency, managed the website, helped writing proposals, publicised our work through various media, and done a little fund raising.

    • Librarian in charge of the Clinical Sciences Library
      • 1976 - 1995

Starting a new library which served the staff of three major hospitals in Leicester as well as health professionals in the community was exciting and challenging and would not have been so rewarding if I had not had the back-up of my professional colleagues and staff in the library itself. I was there during a period which was mainly print based but saw the beginnings of technological change and a glimpse of what digitisation might mean.
