I joined as the first HR Director for the worldwide Habib Group, banking and non-banking, and although the group employs over 15,000 people worldwide there had been no cohesive approach to People Strategy or HR. I started this role reporting to the Executive Chairman of the Family Business Board and the Joint Presidents of the family owned Bank (all family members). I was Secretary to the Habib Business Board that reviews and advises on all major business and strategic matters, Banking and Industrial. The conglomerate had not had a Corporate HR function prior to my arrival and so the Executive role I assumed can be described as “pioneering”. After some time I focused on the Banking business that required particular attention with a substantial change and regulatory agenda and the need for a number of top level leadership and professional appointments at Group and Country level. During this time there was significant programatic change and I have introduced a globally implemented HR policy and a state-of-the-art e-learning based ‘Corporate University’. Much of my work has been in facilitating major strategic and organisational change for the bank’s across the Group.
