Actively involved in the purchase of the Earthworks fleet including; 10 x 30 t Dump trucks, 2 x 45texcavators, 2 x 30t excavators, 2 Komatsu D6 blades, 14G Grader and a Cat D8 together with allnecessary support vehicles and fitting shops.The plant was fitted with GPS equipment thus becoming independent of relying on the traditionalengineering staff setting out for the excavation of the Channel, which was a very effective way ofcreating the river profile and landscape areas. The 700 precast units were manufactured on site.Follow-on work involved the supply of a new fendering system and the associated deck furniture.M&E consisted of replacing the potable water and fire fighting systems, together with the appropriate lighting and navigational systems. Additional work was undertaken direct to Conoco under subcontract for the supply of additional pipe bridges.

The works were carried out in a 12 metre tidal zone and the breakwater was 1760 metres long. Also incorporated in the works was a 420 metre long precast culvert which was proposed as an alternative and was designed in-house and built insitu by the site team. This project was the subject of a presentation at the Coastlines, Structures and Breakwaters Conference at the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1998.

This involved the demolition of an existing jetty dredging and piling. Subsequently reinforced concrete work, the installation of the fendering system and all theassociated temporary works.The demolition of the existing Anglo Iranian Jetties was carried out under subcontract to Smit Takusing the Barge Taklift 4. The dredging was carried out by our by sister company Ham Dredging initially using a backhoe dredger and then a trailor hopper suction dredger.Tubular piles, 55m long, were supplied by Bender – Ferndorf [Germany] from spirally welded tubewhich initially was in two lengths [for transportation]. Om leaving the mill they were transported bybarge to in Rotterdam were they were butt welded together into their final length. On completion ofthis exercise the piles were shipped by barge to the Isle of Grain where they were installed using the Barge Marlin, which incorporated a leader rig that could handle the 55 metre long pile. The pileswere driven by a Delmag D100, a requirement of the specification called for10% of the piles to becap wapped at installation and subsequent restrike.Pile head preparation was executed from a float and carried out as a stand-alone operation. Cross head construction (46 in total) was carried out using two tower cranes, one working off a purpose built temporary jetty and one located on the existing jetty.The deck was formed using precast planks, which had been fabricated on site and was topped off by concrete supplied by the site batcher.
