I performed electronics/electro-mechanical maintenance for the Flagstaff Weather Forecast Office. I was responsible for electronics maintenance support for assigned systems. I was assigned systems that included the NEXRAD Doppler WSR-88D weather radar, all of the office computer systems, the facilities communications systems, meteorological and hydrological observations systems, and the RRS upper air tracking system. I also maintained the Automated Weather Interactive Processing Systems (AWIPS) by installing, modifying and relocating of assigned equipment. I conducted tests and analysis of assigned systems performance.

Responsibilities were to monitor the quality and functionality of over 1500 of Automated Surface Observing Systems and their interoperation with varying governmental agencies including both internal to CONUS and OCONUS. I observed over 1500 sites hourly across the continental US, Virgin Islands, Guam, Hawaii, and Alaska. I also acted as the first line electronics technician for the Electronic Weather Measurement System by notifying Field Technicians of failed equipment while also tracking the day to day progress on the repair and restoration of all NWS and FAA ASOS systems. I monitored the National Control for all Weather Satellite and Landline Network for all incoming and outgoing circuits status. This included all circuits coming from other Government agencies in and around the Washington DC area that utilized the National Weather Service telecommunications trunk and nodes.

I used, repaired and calibrated all satellite communications equipment and antennas for the POLAR orbiting satellite systems. This included bit syncs, RF signal generators, transmitters, tracking receivers, Low Noise Amplifiers, and a myriad of other satellite communications electronic equipment. I worked extensively with DEC Alpha Open VMS computer operating system along with varying Linux Builds. I used generic and specialized operating commands and scripts to control the communications between the tracking and receiving receivers along with on a scheduled interval the repairing and calibration of the RF transmitter/ receivers and modulators/demodulators.
