    I offered writing and communications support to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students in the AToMS learning community (Achieving Together in Math and Science). Students operated in a variety of disciplines, and we explored the various genres that would be in play in their academic and professional lives. Through the exploration of genre, students learned how to manipulate writing elements effectively.I joined the learning community at start-up and helped develop the curriculum, program elements, recruiting protocol, and administrative procedures. I performed all instructional duties for the freshman year Integrated Studies Lab course: planning, teaching, and assessment. I created a Policies and Procedures Manual for the community, and I participated in a final research and assessment project following the end of the program. My main contribution to the research and assessment project was a white paper created to demonstrate the challenges faced in STEM education at the university level--retention, community-building, and funding--and the ways our program solved those challenges through program design and curriculum development.In my second year, I was nominated for the UNCG Graduate Student Employee of the Year award.
